Breaking the Screen Cycle
A 4-week parent workshop to reduce meltdowns, ease daily power struggles, and help your child build a healthier relationship with screens.
Millions of parents have seen my videos about the impact of screens on young children—especially YouTube and YouTube Kids.
And thousands of you have told me you are experiencing the same thing:
Screen-time isn’t all created equal and your child’s behavior is showing it.
The meltdowns feel huge.
The fights feel constant.
And handing it over feels like the only way to get through the day.
But this feels different—
intense reactions, constant battles… even addictive.
When screens become how kids cope or regulate,
removing them without a plan often makes things worse.
If “just take it away” worked, you would’ve done it already.
This isn’t about what others are doing.
It’s about understanding where your child is, where you want them to be, and how to get (and stay) there when the transition gets rocky.
That’s what we’re going to build together.
Instead of guessing, overcorrecting, or swinging between “too much” and “none at all,” you’ll create a clear (and realistic) plan that works for your child and your family.
And yes - this can include intentional screen time because you, as a parent, need a minute.
Inside Breaking the Screen Cycle, you’ll learn how to:
Understand what’s actually happening with your child and technology
Decide what you want screen use to look like in your home
Create a realistic plan for change
Navigate the transition period with confidence
Learn how to set limits and stick to them
Talk to your child about the change in a way they can understand
Help your child build a healthy relationship with technology that will continue as they grow
Take a look at the curriculum:
-
Learn why screens—especially specific content—can lead to bigger behaviors and harder transitions. Then take a closer look at your own child and family patterns so you can clearly see what’s driving the struggles in your home.
-
You’ll decide what you want screen use to look like in your home, including when, where, and how it’s used. You will be able to make informed decisions based on what research tells us and learn how to use this information to fit your family’s needs. By the end of this week, you’ll have a clear, realistic plan that fits your child and your family.
-
Learn how to talk to your child about the changes, what to expect during the transition, and how to hold limits without constant power struggles. You’ll leave feeling prepared and ready to start implementing your plan.
-
Bring your real-life challenges and get support as you begin implementing your plan at home. We’ll troubleshoot what’s coming up and help you stay consistent so changes actually stick.

Meet Abby
I’m Abby Thomason, LSCSW, RPT, an early childhood therapist who helps parents better understand behavior, emotions, and connection in the early years.
Through my work with families—and through the millions of parents who have connected with my videos—I’ve seen how challenging screen use has become for young children and their parents.
I have two kids of my own and we are not a screen-free household. Technology can be part of your family’s life without it ruling over everything. Together, we can create a plan that works for your specific family and bring calm to the chaos.
